Why
Owning a Cat is Good for You
Having
a pet is a good idea. It has been known that some people might spend their life
with a pet. This is because a pet will bring you some wonderful things that may
improve your life. Generally, people have their own perception of choosing the
best pet to have. It may depend on the advantages that the owner will get
or the feeling of a person that he has bonds with animals/ pets. Some people
might choose a cat while others might choose to own a dog, a bird, or even a
snake. It is commonly assumed that one of the most popular pets is a cat.
Having a cat will bring companionship, better personality, and humor to your
household. In other words, it will bring some happiness into your life.
Surprisingly, being a cat lover not only makes you feel happier but also
makes you feel healthier. Owning a cat is a wonderful idea that can be done in
your life. Thus, these are some reasons why owning a cat is for you.
Owning
a cat can fulfill your need for companionship (Kathy B, Austin T, 2017). If you
live by yourself or have parents who are working all day, it will be boring
staying alone at home. So, to fulfill your loneliness, it is good for you to
have a cat. They will always be with you and waiting for you to come home.
Then, if you are a person who enjoys spending time at home or we can call it a
homebody, this feline friend with its cuteness can be your partner to do many
activities at home. In addition, Kathy B and Austin T in their website:mental
floss states that several studies have found that people (especially
women) prefer to sleep with a cat than with a human bed companion. They said
that they slept better because of their pet. A cat is a great pet to have if
you want to get happiness into your home. A cat can be your real and loyal
friend to fulfil your companionship.
Another
reason is owning a cat can reduce stress and anxiety (Finka LR, Ward J,
Farnworth MJ, Mills DS, 2019, p.18). Owning a cat can actually trigger the
release of calming chemicals in your body which lower your stress and anxiety
levels. It has to do with serotonin ( a brain chemical that promotes feelings
of well-being) and cortisol, a chemical associated with stress. When we spend
time with cats, our serotonin levels rise, and our cortisol levels decline. It
may be great if a furry friend can be your family member, a cat is always
around at home, a cat may provide you safety, a calming constant in your
life (Finka LR, Ward J, Farnworth MJ, Mills DS, 2019, p.13-14). It has been
shown that owning a cat can have a dramatic impact on our mindsets. According
to scientists, if you spend your time 15 to 30 minutes per day with a cat, cuddling,
playing or just hanging out with your cat, your mood might improve. So, it's
better to welcome your own cat into your home.
Then,
owning a cat helps you enjoy better health. Believe it or not, having a cat
around you can actually give many positive impacts on your health. Many studies
have found that owning a cat can lower your stress levels, which will
have a good effect on your risk of cardiovascular disease (Adnan IQ, Muhammad
Zeeshan M, Gabriela V, and M Fareed KS, 2009, p. 132-135). Owning a cat can
actually lower one's risk of various heart diseases, including stroke. There
are many health benefits of owning a cat, but the highlights include a
lower risk of heart attack, an improved immune system and even the potential to
prevent children from developing asthma and allergies later in life.
There
are many reasons why owning a cat is good for us. However, they are the
main reasons and the most important. Fulfilling your companionship, reducing
stress and anxiety, and enjoying better health are some reasons why owning a
cat is a good idea that can be done in your life. Overall, it is very
beneficial for welcoming a cat as your pet into your home.
